Banditz Gymboree
Group Reflection
We see a complex pattern of shapes. Originally when we looked at it we saw a very confusing piece of art but as we looked at it more, we saw the different layers of the piece. The simplistic background behind a few shapes of different colors and then even another layer of shapes over those. We noticed how each shape had a smaller shape inside of it.
To represent the artwork through music we had to use the emotions we felt as we viewed the piece. When we looked at the piece at first it was a whole piece of artwork, but then as we viewed it more, we found each layer and the shapes in it, making the piece more complex. This is represented through our song by the use of whole notes and quarter notes in the beginning followed by shorter and faster sixteenth notes. To represent the finished product of the artwork, we ended the composition with a whole note.
We chose the piano because of the diversity of the sound that comes from it. The piano has so many different octaves to choose from that it made the decision easier. We could also represent the background as bass clef and the other shapes as the treble clef easily when using the piano.
A piece of art is something which provokes emotion. Whether this emotion is represented through colors on a canvas or the musical notes sounding from an instrument, a piece art is something which is universally recognized. Therefore, by creating a composition that represents the artwork given to us, the music translates to all cultures of the world.
