Art-Infused Composing with Noteflight
The purpose of this project was multi-faceted. Our first goal was to stimulate thought and opinion through reflective analysis and then to have students create based off of their reflections. Students were split into groups and were asked to describe what they noticed in Frank Jonas’ Geoscape 6. From there they created compositions using a new online flash-based notation program known as Noteflight.
The first quarter of Music Technology I focussed on using loops via Garage Band and real instruments to create music and media. Most of our students in this course have never read or created using music notation. No music theory was taught before this project as this is an exploratory assignment which introduces our students to both music composition and art-infused creating.
